I have been providing services in private practice since February of 1995. I have been providing counseling/psychotherapy services since 1983. I have a broad range of experience. I have worked at mental health centers, and veterans hospitals. I work with adults (including seniors) and adolescents.
I have a great deal of experience with anxiety issues (e.g., panic, phobias including agoraphobia and social phobia, obsessive compulsive problems, posttraumatic stress disorder, etc.), addiction, depression, couples and family counseling, anger and stress management, relationship issues and patterns, and phase of life issues (e.g., occupational or career change, children no longer at home, trying to find new purpose, estrangement from family or friends, etc.).
I believe in using approaches that work, and that have some basis in research, and that in my experience have been useful to my clients. My best and most profound teachers over the years have and continue to be my clients. I feel that it is very important that my clients are pursuing the goals in treatment that are important to them, and it is important to get results, as soon as possible. I feel that it is important for therapy to be on focus or target with regard to the client's goals and priorities. I believe it is important that the approaches used in therapy make sense to my clients and that my clients are in agreement with the approaches used and how therapy is proceeding. I ask for feedback from clients regularly, and I believe in a collaborative process. I prefer that my clients have processes that they are working on in between sessions that are related to their goals and developing skills.
I tend to favor cognitive-behavioral approaches, but I also recognize and work with developmental issues, including adult development or phase of life issues. I am experienced in using exposure with response prevention techniques. I also think it is important to work with physiological issues which are related to mental and emotional functioning. I believe in being nonjudgmental and accepting. I believe in helping clients to develop and refine their abilities to use their thinking, emotions, and behavior in an integrated way to enhance the quality of their lives.
Over the years I have consistently gotten very good feedback from my clients with regard to the results they get in treatment, and that the focus has been on what is important to them, in a way that makes sense to them.
I am on most insurance provider panels, and some of my clients pay out of pocket. My fee for clients who are paying out of pocket or self-pay is $100.00 per session.
